How to prepare for an interview!

Posted in: Blog

When it comes to an interview, you can never be too prepared…

Whether you’re new to job hunting, or you’re a well-practiced interviewee – thorough research and effective preparation is essential to guarantee interview success. In interviews, your job is to convince a recruiter that you have the skills, knowledge and experience for the job.

How to prepare:

Research the organisation:
  • Visit the company website and ensure you understand the breadth of what they do.
  • Review the company background and mission statement.
  • Read recent press releases for insight on projected growth and stability.

Compare your skills and qualifications to the job requirements:
  • Analyse the job description and outline the knowledge, skills and abilities you have that the role requires.
Prepare responses:
  • Most interviews will involve a combination of resume-based, behavioural and case questions. cer Financial ensures every candidate receives interview preparation before attending interviews with our clients.
Plan what to wear:
  • Be sure that your overall appearance is neat and clean.
  • Business attire.
Pay attention to non-verbal communication:
  • Remember that waiting room behaviours may be reported.
  • Smile, establish eye contact and use a firm handshake.
  • Sit up straight yet comfortably.
  • Facial expressions provide clues to your feelings. Manage how you react, and project a positive image.
Many interviews end with “Do you have any questions?”:
  • Always answer this one with a yes. After a little preparation, you'll be able to ask the right questions at the right time.
  • What makes the organisation a great place to work?
  • What are the opportunities for progression?
  • What are the next steps in the hiring process?
