KEY SKILLS:

Teamwork and Leadership:

  • I have achieved the Silver Duke of Edinburgh award which required the completion of a 3-night expedition. I took on a team leader role in which I was required to plan the nutrition and other items needed for the duration of the challenge. I worked with my group to set up camp, cook and encouraged contribution amongst the members.

Data Driven Decisions:

  • As a part of my studies last year, I conducted a full-scale analysis of environmental initiatives to determine the best course of action for renewable energy companies. Applying mathematics to physical problems requires a meticulous approach which is essential for troubleshooting tasks, optimising strategies and making informed decisions. This led to a conclusion which was well received by fellow students and assessors when presenting the final proposal.

Equanimity:

  • I undertook a rugby refereeing course at Canterbury RFC to achieve the diploma badge. This has enabled me, during actual games, to make decisive decisions calmly, often under pressure from players, coaches and parents. I had to apply them from a wide and comprehensive range of rules applied by the union and be able to justify them to relevant parties, when required.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Undertaking my degree required a high level of computer skills, report writing, understanding and providing and presenting data. This has given me a good knowledge and application of Microsoft software/applications as well as some more complicated ones that demonstrate my ability to learn independently.

EDUCATION:

September 2021 - July 2024: University

  • BSc Physics 2:1

Studying Physics has given me the ability to develop a broad range of skills, the key being a robust foundation in advanced mathematics as well as a strong ability to solve complex problems. The application of mathematics to physical problems requires a meticulous approach which is essential for troubleshooting tasks, optimising strategies and making informed decisions. Group work has helped me further develop my presentation and communication skills in both interpersonal and written form. The teamwork has cemented my planning, time management and risk skills in industrial/real world scenarios. Laboratory work has given me a strong aptitude for data analysis, graph visualisation and presenting complex concepts in a digestible format. This has also required me to adapt quickly to new technologies and the various software necessary. I have also taken the ‘Physics in an Enterprise Culture’ module in my final semester which has developed my skills as a physicist in the world of business.

September 2013 - July 2020: School

  • A-Levels: Physics, Chemistry and Religious Studies. BBB (not sat due to COVID-19)
  • GCSE’s: 10 GCSE’s including: Maths (8), English (7)

CAREER HISTORY:

Restaurant

Pizzaiolo Chef

  • This role was fast paced and required excellent communication and teamwork. Situated on a busy road in the heart of Sheffield, at peak times, the restaurant was often full of additional demands for delivery and collection orders. The role required clear communication when working back-to-back under pressure with hot objects and other potential hazards.

March 2020 - September 2021

  • Duties included organising the stock in an orderly way, on and off the shop floor, whilst taking on the increased responsibility of ensuring customers and staff were respecting each other’s space during the COVID-19 pandemic.

September 2018 - January 2019

Supermarket

Sales Assistant

  • Duties included working face-to-face with customers on the tills, as well as understanding and resolving any issues for them.

Industrial Group Project

  • This is a project that I completed through my time at university. I was part of a group of four students who were working with Century Cues based in Sheffield. The company works in the highly specialised cue-sports market, making custom cues for professional players. Due to the huge gap in the market for modern cues, we collectively decided to make the first steps in designing a new cue using composite materials. The project lasted the full academic year and after working closely with the clients we managed to establish a technique for mapping the current wooden/ash ones which can be used as a blueprint when designing new ones out of composite materials.

Summer 2018

Solicitors

Work Experience

  • This experience gave me an early insight into the professional workplace. Duties included reception work by phone and face-to-face, arranging and sending of legal documents and related mail and other general administrative duties. This was a successful endeavour which mutually benefitted me and the company.
