cer Financial are working alongside an international bank who are based in the City of London. They are seeking a Migration Business Data Analyst to work with them on a contract. The Data Office is looking to support all areas of the bank in making better use of data. This role is to be a Data Migration /Data Transfer – Business Data Analyst who can support migrations within multiple programmes or projects both large and small as part of the Bank’s Transformation.
The responsibilities of a Migration Business Data Analyst will include:
- The Business Data Analyst role will play a critical role in ensuring smooth data migrations between legacy and target systems by analysing business requirements, validating data accuracy, and collaborating with technical teams to drive data integrity and compliance
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and document business data requirements for data migration and data transfer.
- Analyse current and future data structures, business processes, dataflows, and dependencies to identify gaps and risks and ensure smooth data transition /transfer
- Define data mapping, transformation rules, validation criteria and business logic for data transfer and data migration projects
- Work closely with data engineers and migration teams to ensure accurate data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL).
- Support data reconciliation, integrity checks, validation, and cleansing activities to ensure quality and consistency.
- Identify and resolve data discrepancies and ensure alignment with business rules.
- Assist in data profiling and data lineage documentation to track historical changes and data movements
- Act as a liaison between business users, data architects, IT teams, and vendors to facilitate smooth data transitions.
- Translate business requirements into actionable data specifications for the transfer/ migration team.
- Provide reports, dashboards, and insights to track data transfer/data migration progress and data integrity.
- Maintain data documentation, including data dictionaries, lineage, and standards.
- Work with risk and compliance teams to ensure migrated data meets audit and reporting standards
- Assist in developing strategies for data retention, archiving, and decommissioning of legacy systems.
- Data Lineage identification and Data Mapping
- Data Quality Control, Collection and Cleansing: Identify and collect relevant data from multiple sources, including internal databases, external vendors, and APIs.
- Problem Solving and Testing: Skills to use data to support investigations and testing, understand how to get root cause of problems.
- Data Governance and Quality Assurance: Ensure data integrity, data privacy, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, IT team, the banks Divisions and decision-makers, communicate findings, recommendations, and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively.
- Advice and Innovation: Provide advice to teams within the business about tools, data and skills. Have an innovation outlook, trying to find new ways of supporting and improving our business.
- Support Cutover Planning and Runbook Management: contribute to the development and execution of data migration and cutover tasks that need to be completed during the data migration preparation execution and cutover implementation
- User Coordination: Work with users on how to use the migrated data

- Work with operations teams to design, develop and approve setup of reference/ static data for testing and go-live

The successful Migration Business Data Analyst will have:
- Proven experience in data migration or data transfer/transition projects, preferably within financial services or regulated industries.
- Strong SQL skills for data querying, validation, and reconciliation.
- Experience with ETL tools and data transformation techniques.
- Solid understanding of data modelling, data structures, and relational databases.
- Proficiency in BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for data visualisation.
- Strong stakeholder management and ability to translate technical concepts for business users.
- Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, BCBS 239).
- Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) is a plus.
