cer Financial are partnering with a leading international bank, based in London, who are looking to bring on an experienced Cassandra Database Engineer (NoSQL) for an exciting 6-month contract opportunity.
Responsibilities:
- Cassandra Cluster Management: Design, implement and maintain Apache Cassandra clusters, including keyspaces, replication and partitioning.
- Data Modelling: Develop and optimise data models based on query patterns, with a focus on partition keys, denormalisation and avoiding hotspots/wide partitions.
- Performance Optimisation: Tune compaction, consistency levels, read/write performance and JVM/GC settings.
- Cluster Operations: Manage node additions/decommissions, repairs, backups and disaster recovery.
- Monitoring: Monitor Cassandra cluster health using Prometheus/Grafana, OpsCenter or equivalent tools.
- CQL Support: Develop and optimise CQL queries and advise application teams on best-practice access patterns.
- Security & Infrastructure: Work with infrastructure and security teams on hardening, encryption and authentication/authorisation (RBAC).
- Technical Documentation: Create and maintain data models, runbooks and operational procedures.
Experience:
- 4–9 years’ experience in NoSQL/Cassandra database engineering within production environments.
- Strong Apache Cassandra & CQL expertise, including data modelling, replication, consistency and performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with cluster operations, backups, repairs, disaster recovery and capacity planning.
- Strong Linux and Bash/Python scripting skills.
- Financial services/regulatory experience with knowledge of security, encryption and RBAC.
- Exposure to Kafka, IBM MQ/IIB, Actimize or Oracle PL/SQL is desirable.
- Cloud/Cassandra certifications are a plus.
- Comfortable working in Agile, cross-functional environments with strong stakeholder management skills.
